Ruel has released a cover of Sixpence None The Richer’s 90s classic, “Kiss Me”.

The stripped-back rendition serves as a preview of his upcoming covers EP titled Adaptations, set to be released on August 1st. The EP will feature Ruel’s favourite classic hits.

“I’ve always found covers a hard task to tackle, it’s a tricky balance to make sure you do justice to the original and put your own spin on it,” shares Ruel. “For this ’90s classic I thought stripping it right back and keeping it simple was the best way to go.”

“When the idea floated around of an EP, I immediately made a playlist of hundreds of songs that were either underrated gems or my fav hits and then paired up with M-Phazes to bring them to life. I’m so happy with what we came up with and I’m hyped to see what you guys think.”

The track’s accompanying video was shot in the same church featured in Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 film Romeo + Juliet in Mexico City. The ARIA Award-winning artist sits at a piano, delivering the song surrounded by candles and flowers. You can watch it beloow.

Best known for songs like “Painkiller,” and “GROWING UP IS ___”, Ruel released his debut album, 4TH WALL, last year, a glossy collection of contemporary pop.

It was a true labour of love for the Sydney singer-songwriter. “I spent the last three years writing it and wound up with over 100 songs,” he explained upon release. “I rewrote half of them and re-recorded most of them, until they sounded exactly as I heard them in my head… I’m so proud of it, thank you so, so much for sticking with me.”

4TH WALL followed three well-received EPs – 2018’s Ready, 2019’s Free Time and 2020’s Bright Lights, Red EyesHe also dropped a pair of collaborative tracks with DMA’s, “What A Life” and “We’re A Pair of Diamonds”at the start of this year.

Ruel is keeping busy with upcoming global tour dates, including first time performances at Lollapalooza in Chicago and his own headline shows in New York and Los Angeles (see full tour info here).
