Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Share New Single ‘Falling Thunder’

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever are gearing up to release their second album, Sideways To New Italy, at the start of June.

As we get ever-closer to the release of their highly-anticipated second album, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have shared their latest single, “Falling Thunder”.

For a few years now, Melbourne’s Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have been living the musical lifestyle that many of their contemporaries would dream of. “Having raised some eyebrows with their 2016 EP Talk Tight, the group caught the attention of iconic US label Sub Pop, who released both their follow-up EP, The French Press, and their debut album, Hope Downs, in 2018.

The group’s steady output of material continued into 2019, releasing the double A-side “In the Capital” and “Read My Mind” following a constant stream of touring in the months beforehand.

Having announced the release of their second album – Sideways To New Italy – earlier this year, the group have since offered up some fresh singles, including the likes of “Cars In Space” and “She’s There”, which arrived in early April.

Now, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have returned once again, giving fans a third taste via their latest track, “Falling Thunder”, which premiered via The Fader overnight.

Described by vocalist and guitarist Tom Russo as being “about pushing on through the relentless march of time, against the constant cycle of seasons” and “the way people change and relationships change”, “Falling Thunder” captures the group at their best, and bodes well for the rest of the forthcoming record.

“Our friend Jamieson Moore shot the footage of Sicily, Sardinia and the Aeolian Islands on her phone while on vacation last year,” Russo explains of the track’s accompanying vertical video clip. “The Aeolian Islands is also where my and Joe Russo’s ancestors are from.

“We were also planning to shoot the band playing in Eolian Hall in Melbourne (it’s a community hall founded by Aeolian immigrants). We got some practice footage but by the time it came to shoot the band, we were on lockdown. So it’s turned out as a kind of a love letter to a particular place.”
