RocKwiz has announced a special series of shows to mark the 50th anniversary of Mushroom Group.
Mushroom Group recently announced it was celebrating its landmark birthday in a big way with a series of events and initiatives to be held throughout 2023.
Formed by the late, great Michael Gudinski in 1972, Mushroom Group released its first album the following year, the iconic Sunbury 1973, The Great Australian Rock Festival. Very quickly Gudinski established Mushroom as one of Australia’s foremost and finest record labels; 50 years later, Mushroom now represents Australian culture around the world, as well as bringing the globe’s best talent to this country.
That’s why Mushroom decided to mark its five decades at the top in such style. Before a massive Mushroom 50 concert in November featuring a to-be-announced all-star lineup, some of Australia’s most iconic musicians have released stunning covers, including The Temper Trap and Paul Kelly.
And the newly announced RocKwiz Salutes Mushroom 50 will also honour the classics songs of the country’s renowned music company.
Julia Zemiro, Brian Nankervis, Dugald McAndrew, and the RocKwiz OrKestra will bring their unique brand of comedy, ‘kwizzery’, and music alongside a host of special guests from the Mushroom stable on a national tour from June.
‘It is an honour to be part of Mushroom’s 50th birthday celebrations. The stories of a 21-year-old Michael Gudinski starting this company are wonderful and have always held me in their thrall. RocKwiz salutes Mushroom will take you on that journey with stories, tributes, and the power of some of the best music our country has produced,” Zemiro says.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Monday, May 1st at 12pm AEST via Ticketmaster and Ticketek. The RocKwiz members pre-sale begins on Thursday, April 27th at 1pm AEST, while the venue and ticketing pre-sale begins on Friday, April 28th at 1pm AEST.
