Ricki-Lee has announced her first album in 10 years.
Titled On My Own, the singer, songwriter, and TV and radio star’s forthcoming album will release in March of next year.
“Over the last 18 months I have poured my absolute everything into this album and without a doubt it’s my best work to date, I’ve never been prouder,” the ARIA Award-winning artist explains.
To celebrate her album announcement, Ricki-Lee has today shared new single “Ghost”, a track penned about a close relationship that came to a sudden end without explanation.
“I wrote the song about being ghosted. We’ve all been there, and it’s such a weird and frustrating thing to go through because you never really get any closure,” she says.
“It was actually a difficult song for me to write because it’s about losing someone I was extremely close to. One minute they were a huge part of my life, and the next day they were gone. It was like they died… but they didn’t… they just vanished out of my life one day. I was heartbroken.
“And what makes it worse is that we live in a world where social media keeps everyone connected – but sometimes it’s more like you’re being haunted by the person who ghosted you when you see their face popping up in your DM’s and watching everything you’re doing.”
“Ghost” is the third single to be shared from Ricki-Lee’s new album, following the title track and “Point of No Return”.
The Australian Idol co-host last released an album in 2014 when Dance in the Rain reached number 14 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Dance in the Rain was her fourth consecutive top 40 album in Australia.
Two years ago, Ricki-Lee spoke to Rolling Stone AU/NZ to praise Kylie Minogue as part of our 50 Greatest Australian Artists of All Time series.
“Since I was a little kid, Kylie Minogue has flown the Aussie flag all around the world and shown little girls like me that Australian artists can take on the best in the world. As so many little girls did – I grew up dancing to her music videos, singing her songs and dreaming that one day I could be like her. Kylie is such an amazing example that hard work and dedication will always be what separates you from the rest, and is the key to longevity in this business,” she said.
Ricki-Lee’s “Ghost” is out now. On My Own is out March 8th, 2024 (pre-save/pre-order here).
