Just one week after winning big at the 2024 Aotearoa Music Awards, Princess Chelsea has announced a tour of a very different kind indeed.
Auckland’s Civic Wintergarden and New Plymouth’s Theatre Royal are set to be bewitched this August by “Princess Chelsea and The Dream Warriors”, who are hosting a Twin Peaks-themed midwinter ball at teach venue.
“Venture forth into the surreal world of David Lynch as the opulent red and gold tapestry of The Civic’s Wintergarden and New Plymouth’s Theatre Royal are transformed into The Black Lodge, where reality bends and twists every note,” the ball’s bio states.
“Welcome to Princess Chelsea’s Midwinter Ball – a celebration of the arcane, where Twin Peaks converges with the symphony of the surreal, promising an evening of wonder and enchantment like no other. The owls are not what they seem…”
Princess Chelsea and her cohorts will be accompanied by special guests Half Hexagon, who featured in Rolling Stone AU/NZ‘s guide to The Others Way 2022, at each show, with “the mysterious Special Agent Matthew Crawley” joining them for live karaoke in Auckland.
When you’ve enjoyed two years as successful as Princess Chelsea just has, you’re allowed to put on as many David Lynch-inspired tours as you want.
The art-pop artist took home the 2023 Taite Music Prize for her excellent album, Everything Is Going to Be Alright, and followed that this year by seeing off strong competition from Mermaidens and Grecco Romank to be named Best Alternative Artist at the 2024 Aotearoa Music Awards.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, June 12th at 10am local time. The pre-sae begins on Monday, June 10th at 10am local time (sign up here).
