PNAU and Empire of the Sun have finally joined forces on new single, “AEIOU”.
For close to two decades, Nick Littlemore has straddled the two creative projects, and now they’ve finally come together for a sparkling collaboration.
“AEIOU” features his Empire of the Sun counterpart Luke Steele’s unmistakable vocals, delivered over PNAU’s signature danceable beats.
Contrary to what the title suggests, the single isn’t a reminder for us all about vowels. “This song is about not letting the garden of Eden within us all be corrupted by the world,” Steele reveals.
According to Littlemore, it felt right to finally welcome Steele into the PNAU fold alongside Peter Mayes and his brother, Sam. “This is a dream record for us,” he says. “We’ve had the idea of a vowels-based song way back before we met Elton, but it never came together until now. It turns out it was worth the wait. And in great style we finally present a collaboration with Empire of the Sun! A voice like no other, let it lead you to the dancefloor.”
The single is accompanied by a visually stunning animated music video created by MELT AI, who previously worked with PNAU on the videos for “You Know What I Need” and “Stars”. The clip transforms Littlemore and Steele into AI form as they go on an intergalactic adventure (watch below).
“”AEIOU” is more than a song; it’s a visual and auditory journey that melds the strides of human creativity, AI motion capture, hand-made 3D animation and Stable Diffusion with the artistry of PNAU and Empire of the Sun,” MELT directors Kuba Matyka and Kamila Staszczyszyn explain.
“We’ve not just told a story but breathed digital life into it, reflecting the powerful reunion of these iconic musicians and creating a saga that resonates with their legacy.”
The release of “AEIOU” arrives alongside news of PNAU’s sixth studio album, Hyperbolic, which is expected to be released early next year.
