Purveyors of party tunes Peking Duk have dished up a surprise banger, “Stop the Music,” on the eve of Australia’s first Bunnings Rave.
Featuring Los Angeles-based vocalist and songwriter FEYI, “Stop the Music” perfectly captures the infectious energy that Peking Duk’s Adam Hyde and Reuben Styles have been bringing to stages while road testing new music and playing crowd favourites on their 13-date sold out Winter DJ tour, which wrapped up last weekend.
“’Stop the Music’ is a feel-good rave tune. We feel like it’s what the world needs right now and hopefully it gets your hips moving,” explain Peking Duk. “FEYI is the type of person you put a canvas in front of and she’ll paint a million different pictures that are more colourful than the last, yet completely unique from each other. It’s been an honour to collaborate closely with FEYI on a lot of music and this is the first of a lot to come.”
Irish-born, Nigerian-American FEYI, who has collaborated with a huge array of artists including Rico Nasty, kennedi. and Tkay Maidza, said she loved working with the pair. “It was an immediate amazing vibe and chemistry from the first session and from that we created this record that I’m super excited about.”
There is no stopping the formidable force that is Peking Duk, who revealed to fans on their recent tour they are preparing to release their debut album — a mere decade and a half after forming in their hometown of Canberra. The multi-platinum, ARIA-winning pair have historically only released singles, but this is set to change in coming months.
A release date is yet to be announced.
Hyde and Styles will also join What So Not and Sydney DJ Kaila for the viral Bunnings Warehouse Party, AKA Bunnings Rave, at Melbourne’s Bunnings Preston tomorrow. The initial event sold out in record time, with the 18+ Warehouse Rave after party at Melbourne’s PICA expected to attract over 5,000 attendees.
Fans who missed out on tickets can tune into Peking Duk’s set live on TikTok from 7:30pm AEST this Saturday, August 31st.
The pair will also perform separately at this year’s BIGSOUND — with Styles showcasing his Y.O.G.A. solo project and Hyde showcasing his solo Keli Holiday project — before reuniting in New Zealand for Peking Duk appearances at Snow Machine.
For Victorian readers, the new September-November Rolling Stone AU/NZ issue includes an exclusive zine (available online nationwide).
The zine features cover stars Peking Duk, including band member Adam Hyde, who opens up about his recent experiences with melanoma. In a collaboration with the Cancer Council Victoria, the zine reveals how Hyde is not an outlier — despite being young and a notable musician — and what readers can do to reduce their cancer risk.
Peking Duk’s “Stop the Music” is available now on all streaming platforms.
