Oliver Cronin is gearing up for a huge 2024 with a new EP, Halfway to Paradise.
Along with the announcement, he’s dropped a new single, “Girl Next Door,” featuring ARIA-nominated Sydney pop artist Charley.
This playful track sees both artists vying for the same girl, set against moody production and big synths. The music video, directed by Kyle Caulfield, perfectly captures the fun storyline.
“I’ve been wanting to work with Charley on a track for years and when I finished the verse I knew I had to hit her up to jump on,” says Cronin. “I found it really cool to show a love triangle with a twist, and when she sent me back her verse I knew it would take the track to the next level. The music video was so much fun, and working with Kyle was a breeze.”
Charley shares the sentiment: “Oliver sent me this song a couple months ago and asked me to put a verse on it if I liked it. Turns out I loved it, and we wrote the rest of the song together and made it about wanting the same girl! I love how much of a duet it is, especially when the bridge hits.
“And side note, I have loved working with Oliver so much, he’s such a goofy lil superstar and it’s rare to find people that lift you up as a human and match your fun side which is so important when making music. Have to remember it’s a fun process instead of being too serious about it.”
“Girl Next Door” follows Cronin’s earlier 2024 releases, “In the End,” “Burning House,” and “Hello Goodbye,” all set to feature on the upcoming EP, out Thursday, October 3rd.
Halfway to Paradise marks Cronin’s growth since his debut EP, Beautiful Nightmare.
“My life has changed in so many ways and I’ve grown a lot as an artist and a person since ‘Beautiful Nightmare’,” Cronin reflects. “I think this EP is a reflection of that.”
This year also saw Cronin feature in our ‘Future of Music’ series.
In conjunction with our global Rolling Stone partners, our editorial team compiled a list of 25 of the most exciting and innovative artists from Australia and Aotearoa, including Cronin, who we felt are destined for the very top.
“Oliver Cronin’s edgy, dark-pop sound, which mixes hip hop and trap elements, has grabbed both industry and fan attention,” we wrote.
“Following viral TikTok remixes and millions of streams, the ambitious Sydney-based artist now has new material slated for 2024. The 2024 Rolling Stone Australia Awards Best New Artist nominee will be aiming to win big at next year’s edition.”
