Nicholas Allbrook has gone all out in his sprawling new single “Round Round the Moon and All”.

On the second track from his forthcoming new solo album Manganese, the Pond frontman channels classic piano crooners of the past. It’s a lovingly imagined slice of timeless rock, with even an endearing flute solo making its way into the production from Thea Woodward.

“Round Round the Moon and All” finds Allbrook grappling with “being love sick, wu-tang and crawling around Carillon City on acid.”

“An old song I’ve never been able to record properly. Playing it with Rachel, Tayo, Edo and Cam made it work though. Thea Woodward again plays magnificent flute,” Allbrook adds.

The single comes accompanied with a music video, featuring Allbrook and his band performing the track live at Tunafish Studio in Fremantle, WA. “Round Round the Moon and All” follows previous single “Jackie”, a more upbeat and glistening synth-laden number, with both tracks emphasising Allbrook’s versatility.

Allbrook has been busy elsewhere this year. He helped out longtime friend and collaborator Kevin Parker on “Wings of Time”, Tame Impala’s original song written for the new fantasy film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which arrives in Australian cinemas on Thursday, March 30th.

Parker chose the Pond singer to help him out as he’s “the person I know appreciates this subject matter the most.”

“We rented a villa in Spain, that kind of felt like a castle, for two nights whilst on tour for Primavera. That location got us in the right frame of mind and it went from there. We stayed up late coming up with weird ideas and song lyrics,” Parker said.

Following the release of his new album, Allbrook will embark on an East Coast tour backed by his full band, with tickets on sale now via his official website (see full dates below).

Nicholas Allbrook’s “Round Round the Moon and All” is out now. Manganese is out June 9th via Spinning Top Records (pre-save/pre-order here).
