Just over a month since he first plotted an Australian leg of his world tour, Irish musician Niall Horan has announced the cancellation of his global “Nice to Meet Ya” tour.

Having released his second solo album, Heartbreak Weather, in mid-March, 2020 was undoubtedly set to be a big year for the former One Direction member, with a run of worldwide tour dates set to begin this month.

In late February however, the chart-topping musician revealed that he would be visiting Australia as part of this trek, announcing shows in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.

Unfortunately, the growing list of shows cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19 has now grown slightly larger, with Horan revealing his own tour has now been cancelled in the wake of the global pandemic.

“Given the unprecedented circumstances I have decided to not move forward with the ‘Nice to Meet Ya’ world tour this year,” Horan explained in a statement shared to social media. “This was a difficult decision, but the well-being of my fans and touring family is always my top priority.

“Not being able to tour for what is effectively most of 2020 just didn’t feel right and I’m so sorry to all you amazing people who bought tickets. I look forward to being able to bring new music and a new tour for all of my fans around the world in 2021.

Both Horan and Ticketek confirmed that all ticketholders will receive a full refund for their purchases, with no action required on their part.

“I am going to focus on writing and recording more in order to be back touring next year with more music to play for you all,” the statement continued.

“As you all know touring and having the fortune to play in front of all of you beautiful people is the reason I love my job and my life.

“I cannot wait to be back. For the time being, please stay safe everyone.”

At the current time, Horan is yet to announce any rescheduled dates, but is expected to do so once COVID-19 restrictions lessen and things return to a semblance of normalcy.
