Kita Alexander has enlisted the help of country music star Morgan Evans for her new single.
“Date Night”, a tender ballad, finds the pop performer experimenting with country music for the first time, perhaps a harbinger of things to come as Alexander prepares her debut album.
During the final moments of a recent songwriting session, Alexander challenged herself to create a country song in her own style; less than an hour later, “Date Night” was born.
“We were pretty obsessed with it and I was certain I was going to give it away to a country star,” Alexander reveals. “Six months later, my husband (Owen Wright) went for a surf with Morgan Evans and he was really excited to feature on it.
“It’s the love song you never knew you needed, and it’s now your gateway into country music.
Over gorgeous acoustic instrumentation, Alexander and Evans dovetail delicately, their yearning vocals documenting the rush of new love.
As Evans explains he had been following Alexander for a while before their collaboration. “I’ve been a fan of Kita’s voice since the first time I heard it and I’m stoked to be a part of this record,” he says.
“To me, “Date Night” is authentic, effortless, and genre-less storytelling that sounds as at-home in my old F150 in Tennessee as it does on the beach in Byron Bay. Can’t wait for folks to hear this one!”
“Date Night” follows Alexander’s previous singles of the year, the contemplative “7 Minutes in Heaven”, and the dancefloor anthem “Queen”.
To add to her promising year, Alexander has signed a worldwide management deal with Lemon Tree Music, which boasts fellow Australian stars like Tash Sultana, Tones and I, and Budjerah on its roster.
Alexander will perform at Brisbane’s FIFA Fan Festival on Friday, July 28th, while she’ll also appear at This That Festival this November.
As for Evans, he’ll return to his home country next month for a headline tour, which recently added three new shows due to overwhelming demand (more information here).
