Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker has once again professed his love of the Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner, noting that the Englishmen is “in another league” to him in terms of songwriting abilities.
The two artists have arguably been at the forefront of the indie and alt-rock scenes for quite some time now, with Tame Impala going on to top the charts in Australia, and rank highly in the US and UK, thanks to the release of their latest album, The Slow Rush.
Over the years, the pair have also shared their mutual admiration for each other. While they both previously noted they would be eager to collaborate with each other, the Arctic Monkeys frontman had earlier covered Tame Impala’s “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” for triple j’s Like a Version sessions.
Now, during an interview with Beats 1 Radio’s Matt Wilkinson, Parker has not only revealed just how highly he regards Turner and his talents, but the fact that the pair are now neighbours.
As NME notes, Parker recently shared his musical highlights as part of the “5 Best Songs On Apple Music” feature, picking tracks from the likes of Portishead, Led Zeppelin, dream collaborators Daft Punk, and previous collaborator Kanye West.
While discussing a number of topics and promising that the next Tame Impala record won’t take another five years, Parker also turned his suggestion to Turner, noting that he’s “in another league to me as a songwriter.”
“Absolutely. [Although] he can’t play drums as good as me,” he added, noting that while they’re yet to work on music together, it’s bound to happen at some point due to the fact they “live down the street from each other.”
“I was in his pool the other day. He wasn’t there at the time,” he added. “I didn’t jump his fence… Yeah. Jumped the fence. No, I didn’t.”
