Katy Steele followed her intimate Australian tour with a beautiful Rolling Stone AU/NZ In My Room session.
The acclaimed singer-songwriter played shows in Hobart, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and more towns and cities across the country between April and May, touring in support of latest album Undressed.
Performed in a multi-instrumentalist duo format, the tour brought to life tracks from Steele’s album alongside reiminaged versions of Little Birdy favourites, solo material, and covers.
Backseat Mafia was at the Melbourne stop on the tour, praising the show for favouring “intimacy over scale.”
“Each moment stripped to its emotional core… a night that traded volume for closeness, where every detail felt within reach,” the publication wrote.
Undressed was a bold new release for Steele, one defined by “honesty, momentum, and regular output, according to a press release. Records like Cat Power’s Covers also influenced the vision for Undressed.

In an interview with the AU Review, Steele revealed that the full album title is actually Undressed — Volume One, indicating she has future records in the same style to come.
“There’s so many amazing songs in the world, so that’s why I’ve kept it open as a Volume One. There’s something less stressful about covering a song than covering my own songs, or releasing any new music,” she said. “When you do a version or an interpretation, there is less pressure in a lot of ways, so I just embraced that.”
In another interview with Beat Magazine, Steele said, “I’ve always played solo and I’ve always enjoyed the pressure that comes with stripping everything away. I think since having kids and realising how short life is — I felt the need to start being way more prolific.”
