When Western Sydney rapper Veronica Peter, AKA Vv Pete, took the mic for Rolling Stone AU/NZ’s In My Room session, her charisma captured the audience’s attention long before the music started.
Along with her producer Austin Benjamin, who goes by UTILITY, Vv Pete has hit the ground running. Getting her start freestyling at Mount Druitt’s Street University, Vv now combines punchy, instructional lyrics that speak directly to her fans with UTILITY’s vibrant beats. And from snagging an Aria nomination to headlining the Sydney Opera House twice, the Sudanese-Australian artist has cemented herself as one of the pioneers in modern Australian hip-hop.
Fresh off the back of their first European tour, Vv has now joined the Mentos Fresh Sounds Class of ’26, curated by Rolling Stone AU/NZ; a group featuring eight handpicked up-and-coming Australian and New Zealand artists.
Sitting down to discuss the news, Vv celebrated her addition into the Mentos Fresh Sounds Class, saying “I’m so happy my art is gaining a fresh take across Australia and globally”. “We emerging Artists are the future”, she said. “Theres no future without support from the present.”

She used her In My Room session — her first performance as a Mentos Fresh Sounds cohort member — to give a sneak peek of her latest single “Moneymaker”, soon to be released on UTILITY’S album. She followed it with “Back Into It”, a dance track designed to get up and putting “your back into it.”
