Brisbane-based artist Jaguar Jonze has offered up a stripped-back performance of her debut singles “Beijing Baby” and “You Got Left Behind” for the latest edition of Rolling Stone’s ‘In My Room’, a series in which artists perform from home while in quarantine.
This last year has been a huge one for Jaguar Jonze who, just 12 months ago, wasn’t even a blip of the radar of most music fans. However, a lot can change in a matter of months, with the release of singles like “Rabbit Hole” and “Kill Me With Your Love” helping to shine a light on this stunning Aussie talent.
Now, with her debut EP, Diamond & Liquid Gold, being released back in April, Jaguar Jonze has graced us with a powerful performance of her two earliest singles as part of her ‘In My Room” appearance.
Kicking things off with “Beijing Baby”, she noted that it was her hope that this performance might bring anyone lucky enough to be watching a little something to help brighten their day.
“I hope you enjoy it,” she explains. “I hope just playing it stripped back and intimate brings you comfort, or entertainment, or whatever you might need whenever you watch it.”
Wrapping up her set with the single that “kickstarted this crazy journey”, Jaguar Jonze tears into “You Got Left Behind”, which she says is one she uses as a reminder to keep moving forward.
“I like to come back to it and remember to fight, to push through, to have resilience,” she explains. “This was the beginning of all of that – well, for this chapter; resilience is something I’ve always had to practice, we all do.”
Jaguar Jonze’s performance comes as the latest entry in the ‘In My Room’ series, which has so far featured appearances from acclaimed artists such as Cub Sport, Bad//Dreems, and Garrett Kato, and will showcase Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, and Lime Cordiale in the coming weeks.
