I Prevail have reflected on their first Australian visit ahead of their impending headline tour of the country.

The US rock band begin their biggest Aussie headline tour to date this weekend, playing shows in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney with Imminence and Invent Animate.

“I think this is our seventh time,” Eric Vanlerberghe told Tone Deaf in a new interview. “It’s more of a, ‘I can’t wait to see some familiar faces.’”

He really meant that literally, as fans have returned again and again to see I Prevail when they’ve made the long-haul trip to Australia.

“I know I’ll see them up in the front and I’ll recognise them,” he said.

“It almost feels like a second home. It’s such a cool feeling to be on the complete opposite side of the world from where I’m from and have some familiarity and some familiar faces and even some friends that I’m looking forward to seeing again.”

Vanlerberghe also recalled the band’s first-ever visit Down Under.

Arriving jet-lagged in Perth, he looked across the room, a little dazed from travel.

“I remember looking over and seeing our tour poster in this random bar,” he told Tone Deaf. “And it had all these sold out dates and it just hit me like, holy shit. I’m on the other side of the world about to play for people I’ve never met.”

“I’ve never been in Australia. I don’t even know what people are like down here,” he added. “I just found out what the accent really sounds like.”
