Holy Holy’s fifth album is almost upon us.

The indie rock band announced today that their new album, Cellophane, will be released next month. According to a press release, the album is about Holy Holy “shedding their inhibitions, alleviating themselves of the weight of expectation, and pushing their sound to new territory.”

Cellophane came together in a very collaborative spirit, with appearances from rising rapper Kwame, neo-soul artist Medhanit, Swedish bedroom pop musician Many Voices Speak, and many more. The album features more guests than any Holy Holy release to date.

“We formulated this idea of Holy Holy as this kind of songwriting factory,” says singer Timothy Carroll. “What would happen if we got a day or two with all of these really talented and really interested people, wrap around them and create something cool together?

“We really enjoyed the process, and we loved getting to know all these different artists. It became like a family, and it creates a tapestry that’s so rich and so exciting to us.”

According to guitarist Oscar Dawson, Cellophane having such an extensive guest list could only have happened at this point in their career.

“I don’t think we would have been ready if we tried something like this on an earlier album,” he insists. “We’ve made a lot of progress, especially as songwriters – we’ve been really able to narrow in on a musical idea and get a real feel for a song.

“After making most of (previous album) Hello My Beautiful World on our own because of COVID, it was so nice to be able to get together with people in a room and make music together again.”

Cellophane follows 2021’s Hello My Beautiful World, their highest-charting ARIA album to date (number four). “Emerging from lockdown with their fourth album, Holy Holy have shown that music can be the much-needed escape we all yearn for,” Rolling Stone AU/NZ wrote in a highly positive four-star review.

To celebrate their album announcement, the band have shared the music video for new single “Ready” (ft. Sumner), which you can check out below.

Holy Holy’s “Ready” (ft. Sumner) is out now. Cellophane is out Friday, September 22nd (pre-save/pre-order here).
