Hans. has teamed up with South Korean singer-songwriter and producer SUMIN for their new collaborative single, “Wedding.”
Inspired by a friend’s wedding and the wave of friends getting married, the song explores life’s changing stages and shifting priorities.
It blends delicate alt-pop with twinkling arrangements, starting with Hans.’s dreamy lines before SUMIN’s catchy vocals – in both English and Korean – take over.
Hans. explains, “This song is partly inspired by going to my friend’s wedding – not really the wedding itself, but that fact that the occasion brought our friend group together after a period of being away/separated from each other. We made up for the time lost at the afterparty.
“Slowly, more and more friends are getting married around me too, and I wanted to make a track kind of talking about this transitory period within our group where we’re together, but each of us have are in different stages of life with different priorities. I think especially my priorities are on a different wavelength a lot of the time.”
Hans. has been impressing for a long time – he first broke out in 2017 with a dreamy lo-fi collaboration with future indie pop star Clairo – and has continued putting out sterling cuts in the intervening years, both as a main artist and supporting producer.
His 2022 EP, Candy, was well-received, and he has collaborated with Auckland synth-pop duo IMUGI 이무기 and Korean artists like OOHYO on “BoJack,” Meaningful Stone on “Grandmother Is Waiting for Me,” and hanbee on the nostalgic single “Warmer.”
On the live front, he has also supported artists such as Billie Eilish, Easy Life, and Rejjie Snow on tour.
SUMIN, meanwhile, has been a key figure in the Korean R&B scene since her 2015 debut, producing for major K-pop acts like BTS, Aespa, and Red Velvet.
