Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington festival Great Sounds Great has expanded its lineup in a big way.

The capital festival, put on by Eyegum Music Collective, had already announced Aotearoa music icons like Bic Runga and Savage, as well as Taite Music Prize winner MOKOTRON, local hip-hop favourite MĀ, Kody Nielson’s Silicon, and many more.

Announced today, new additions include metal outfit Beastwars; Hemi Hemingway, who recently showcased his music at The Great Escape in England; Aotearoa Music Award-winning electronic producer Amamelia; and a DJ set from local MP Tamatha Paul.

Three poets — Chris Tse, Dani Yourukova, and Jackson McCarthy — will also perform at the festival.

Great Sounds Great will be spread over 10 Wellington venues for one night on Saturday, September 5th, bringing 40 of the country’s finest artists to the city.

A new venue has been added for 2026, Meow Nui, proving a bigger stage for performing artists.

This year will also see Great Sounds Great throw a massive warm-up party, titled ‘The Night Before’, which will take place across three venues in Newtown on Friday, September 4th.
