Genesis Owusu has followed up his recent album drop with a surprise new single.
Owusu says he wrote “HUMAN AGAIN”, which quickly follows REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE, while “thinking about apathy.”
“Living in the digital age of misinformation is genuinely brain-frying sometimes. So much global gaslighting, so much to cry and scream about; it’s easier to just flip the switch off and sink into base hedonism to feel human again,” he explains.
“But it’s really important to care. You can party too. Care about the rights and freedoms that let you party. Care about all the people around the world who wanna party just like you. Keep fighting, kicking and screaming so the party doesn’t die.”
Owusu released REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE in May, and it was just as acclaimed as his previous albums.
“Seething with righteous anger and moshpit-ready tracks, the Australian artist’s genre-hopping but cohesive LP makes a case for the durability of the form,” The Guardian wrote in a five-star review.

“Folding together post-industrial dissonance, globe-trotting influences, and stinging social commentary, the Australian musician’s new album isn’t pulling punches,” Pitchfork praised in a 7.5 review.
REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE followed Owusu’s 2021 debut Smiling with No Teeth – which came in at No. 1 on our 100 Best Australian Albums of the 2020s So Far list, and 2023’s STRUGGLER.
His 2021 album scooped gongs at the ARIA Awards for Album of the Year, Best Hip Hop Release, Best Independent Release, and Producer of the Year (Andrew Klippel and Dave Hammer). At our Rolling Stone AU/NZ Awards the following year, it won Best Record.
After completing an Australian tour in support of his latest album in May, Owusu will play Yours & Owls Festival in Wollongong at the beginning of October. Check out all of Owusu’s upcoming tour dates here.
