Fred again.. had high praise for Angie McMahon after the Australian singer-songwriter joined him at one of his Melbourne shows.

The popular English producer is currently on a run of shows Down Under, confirmed after he sent local fans into a frenzy by teasing the announcement in several Instagram Stories last week.

At Rod Laver Arena this week, Fred again.. brought out McMahon in her hometown for a special live collaboration. The producer memorably sampled McMahon’s classic song “Pasta” (“I’ve been lost / I’ve been lost for a while,” she sings) on “Angie (i’ve been lost)”, a cut from his acclaimed debut studio album, Actual Life (April 14 – December 17 2020).

He was thrilled to have McMahon join him in person. “One of my favourite things we’ve ever got to do in a live show,” he wrote in an Instagram Story featuring the pair rehearsing for their live duet. “Angie McMahon is one of my favourite singers ever… And ‘I’ve been lost’ is her song,” he added in a follow-up Story.

“That’s the most people I’ve heard singing my chorus back at me,” McMahon wrote in her own Story while also thanking the producer.

McMahon’s latest album, Light, Dark, Light Again, reached #3 on Rolling Stone AU/NZ‘s Best Australian Albums of 2023 list.

“Much of McMahon’s lyrics become mantras, for both her and her listeners, reminding us to relinquish, breathe, and find light through the darkness. The light, she reminds us, always comes again. We’re lucky to have brave songwriters like McMahon embracing the feelings we’re afraid to face,” our review praised.

Fred again.. is currently on his third consecutive Rod Laver Arena show, with three more shows at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena to follow from Tuesday, March 12th-Thursday, March 14th. He’ll also head to a secret pop-up location on the Gold Coast on Saturday, March 9th.
