Fred again.. has finally teamed up with Angie McMahon after sampling her music several years ago.
The superstar British producer has previously sampled the Australian singer-songwriter’s music, and once named McMahon as one of his favourite singers ever via an Instagram story.
In a review of McMahon’s recent Light Sides EP, Rolling Stone AU/NZ described McMahon as a “special artist who makes you feel less alone in the world.”
A fan of her mantra-like lyrics, Fred again.. reinterpreted McMahon’s closing track “Making It Through” from her latest album Light, Dark, Light Again. The album reached No. 3 on Rolling Stone AU/NZ‘s Best Australian Albums of 2023 list.
This is a bit of a reunion for Fred again.. and McMahon, as he previously sampled her on 2021’s “Angie (I’ve Been Lost)”. Earlier this year, the producer called her “one of my favourite singers ever.”
She previously said of the track, “Just as feelings and experiences should continue to rise and fall and ebb and flow, I think the message on this song is that everything we feel is beautiful, and also difficult, and also as it should be.”
Fred again.. shared more emotional insight into creating the song. He posted on his Instagram, “I made it a couple of hours before playing it at Glastonbury. during a darker bit.”

The new single “light dark light” is one half of Fred again’s new two more days EP. The track explores the spectacle of live music, using phone recordings from the crowd at one of McMahon’s performances.
McMahon won the ARIA Award for Best Independent Release this year, while Fred again.. sold nearly a quarter of a million tickets on his pop-up arena tour earlier this year.
On two more days, the second song is called “little mystery”, which re-imagines John Martyn’s “Sweet Little Mastery”.
Fred.. again and Angie McMahon’s “light dark light” is out now.
