It’s been seven long years, but the world is finally getting another Empire of the Sun album.

The beloved Australian electronic duo of Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore have announced their new album, Ask That God, the long-awaited follow-up to 2016’s Two Vines, which reached the top 10 of the ARIA Albums Chart. Ask That God will be officially released on July 26th.

The pair can’t wait to fully unveil their latest work.

“It has been a journey unlike any other that Empire of the Sun has undertaken. We always ‘go there’ when it comes to exploration of both the self and the outside world,” says Littlemore. “This body of work represents the greatest shift in consciousness our world has ever seen and that’s reflected in the music.”

Ask That God is an album we searched for and were thankfully blessed with. We are nothing more than conduits, gathering experience and finding what is meant for the Empire to find,” adds Steele.

Ask That God will feature new single “Music on the Radio”, released today, which follows previous single “Changes”.

“To me this song is like a teenager rebelling against his imaginary emotions. It’s penned in only that unique way Lord Littlemore can bring words to life. The bass wraps its arms around you in some kind of hypnotic groove and you’re powerless to its charms” Steele explains.

The accompanying music video, directed by filmmaker Michael Maxxis, takes viewers on a neon-splashed trip into a parallel universe for a surreal pool party (you know you want to).

Empire of the Sun may have been absent on the album front for a while, but they’ve left an indelible mark on music over the years. Steele and Littlemore’s project has sold over 5.5 million albums worldwide, accumulating a hugely impressive 7.6 billion streams along the way. They have eight ARIA Awards and two APRA Awards to their name, while their debut album, Walking on a Dream, went triple platinum in Australia.

Empire of the Sun haven’t been completely absent since Two Vines. They joined forces with Littlemore’s other musical project, PNAU, last year for the sparkling single “AEIOU”.

Empire of the Sun’s “Music on the Radio” is out now. Ask That God is out July 26th (pre-save/pre-order here).
