Earth Tongue have broken out of the grave and straight into our ears with their latest single, “Grave Pressure”.
As the second release from their upcoming album, this track is all about raw noise, driven by explosive guitar riffs that create a haunting, all-encompassing sonic escapade.
In line with its theme, the song’s lyrics ominously warn of “grave pressure crushing down on you.”
The accompanying music video, filmed in Berlin after their recent Europe tour, takes cues from B-horror movies of the 1970s and 80s. Shot on 16mm film by director Tom Mannion and produced by Caity Moloney, it’s a cinematic treat (watch below).
“If this song was a movie, the protagonist would be trapped in a torturous space between life and death… It’s totally schlocky, and we wanted a video to match that,” says Earth Tongue’s vocalist and guitarist Gussie Larkin.
The story goes that despite facing the ire of Berlin police during filming, the band’s dedication to their vision prevailed. They even pulled off a scene where the duo lay buried under layers of leaves and dirt in a rainy Berlin park.
“We soon found a new park, but it rained all day. The shoot was dramatic and a tad miserable. I guess we went method in a way… how else would you feel after being raised from the dead?” adds Larkin.
Following last month’s release of “Bodies Dissolve Tonight”, “Grave Pressure” marks another powerful single from Earth Tongue, both set to feature on the band’s highly anticipated second album, Great Haunting, out on June 14th via LA’s In the Red Records.
The hard working rock duo is having a massive year, currenlty wrapping up their Aotearoa tour with final stops in Pōneke and Tāmaki Makaurau later this month (see full dates below).
They also made their debut US Austin’s iconic SXSW music conference, following a support slot for none other than US rock titans Queens of the Stone Age at Spark Arena.
Next, they’re getting ready to accompany Ty Segall & Freedom Band on an 11-date tour, followed by a staggering 40-date tour across Europe this summer.
