Producer of the moment Dom Dolla has dropped his first new release of 2024, “girl$”.

The single, which arrives following a busy period of activity for Dom Dolla, including a career-defining performance at Coachella, proved popular with fans even before its official release, racking up over 46M views across fan videos.

“’girl$’ was inspired by a conversation I had with a bunch of friends who were all tired of bad dates… and had eventually come to the conclusion they were giving up on the whole charade,” the DJ and producer explains. “In ‘24 we have so much choice. Nobody is limited by who they want to love or spend time with… whether that’s a guy, girl, or even just relish in their own company.

“I wrote the lyrics based upon a story a friend relayed to me about a wild night out she had. I recorded it and heavily affected my vocals, but felt it needed a strong female performance, so I reached out to my good pal Caitlin Stubbs and asked if she was keen to re-perform the vocal – her voice is fantastic and suits the record so well. I even left some crumbs of my vocal in there too. I hope you all enjoy the record as much as I enjoyed making it,” he adds.

The release of “girl$” comes ahead of Dom Dolla’s biggest ever Australian headline tour yet, which will head to Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, and Brisbane at the end of the year (see full dates below).

Dom Dolla kicked off 2024 by scoring well on triple j’s Hottest 100 countdown, reaching number three (“Saving Up”), number four (“Rhyme Dust” with MK), and number 18 (“Eat Your Man” with Nelly Furtado). All three songs also performed well on the US Dance Chart, with “Rhyme Dust” reaching the top 10.

The past year has also brought Dom Dolla several awards nominations, including a Grammy nomination for his remix of the Gorillaz song, “New Gold”. Last year, he won his second ARIA Award for Best Dance/Electronic Release for the aforementioned “Rhyme Dust”.

The producer was also named Best New Artist at the 2024 Shure Rolling Stone Australia Awards, seeing off strong competition from Royel Otis, Oliver Cronin, grentperez, and more.

Dom Dolla’s “girl$” is out now.
