‘DEFIANT’ Jimmy Barnes Releases Double A-Side Single

It’s a new day, and Jimmy Barnes – the heart and soul of Australian rock – is back, and more defiant than ever.

The legendary frontman has unveiled his double A-side single, “New Day” and “Beyond the River Bend”, offering an intimate look at Barnes’ resilience, passion, and unbreakable spirit, as well as marking the first taste of his forthcoming 21st studio album, DEFIANT.

“New Day” arrives as an anthem of renewal and perseverance, perfectly fitting for Barnes’ storied career. Directed by Paul van Kan, the accompanying music video stars country music icon Troy Cassar-Daley and his wife, television and radio personality Laurel Edwards.

Meanwhile, “Beyond the River Bend” taps into deeply personal themes, inspired by Barnes’ home in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, where “hope keeps flowing like water.” The track weaves a rich tapestry of emotion and endurance, mirroring the unyielding energy that has defined Barnes’ five-decade career and his life.

Despite undergoing heart surgery just months ago – as well as a more recent hip operation – Barnes is proving once again why he’s the undisputed king of Australian rock. His voice remains as raw and commanding as ever, shifting seamlessly from soothing croons to his signature wailing abandon. DEFIANT, set for release on June 6th, is more than just an album – it’s a statement. A testament to his unrelenting drive and passion, it follows the monumental success of Cold Chisel’s ‘The Big Five-O’ anniversary tour in 2024.

To celebrate DEFIANT, Barnes will embark on a six-date national tour this June, backed by his nine-piece band. Kicking off at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre Theatre on June 7th, the tour will hit major venues in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, and Canberra. Given his legendary status and track record of electrifying performances, fans can expect nothing short of a rock and roll masterclass.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back on stage with my band again,” Barnes shared. “I’m so proud of this new record – all the songs mean a lot to me and I can’t wait to share them with you. It’s going to be some serious fun!”
