Dave Grohl celebrated his 56th birthday by giving back to families affected by the devastating Los Angeles wildfires that have ripped through the city over the past week.

The Foo Fighters frontman was seen on Tuesday stirring a large batch of chili among other volunteers at Feed the Streets, a local nonprofit. The organization noted on its Instagram stories they would be distributing the meals to displaced families and inmate firefighters battling the still-burning flames.

Grohl, who lives in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Encino, has long been involved in philanthropic and charity missions, previously volunteering with Feed the Streets and other organizations.

The singer is part of the wider music community who have pulled together since the wildfires erupted on Jan. 7, killing at least 25 people and damaging more than 12,000 homes and buildings.

In the coming weeks, a host of benefit concerts have been organized in California and elsewhere to raise money for people displaced by the fires. Artists have also donated to local funds, including Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus.

The fires have claimed the beloved homes of numerous celebrities, such as Mandy Moore and Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith, Billy Crystal, Jhené Aiko, and Jeff Bridges.

It’s not the first time Grohl has hit the grill for a good cause. He’s previously helped out with Feed the Streets, the community-based non-profit organization servicing underserved communities in Los Angeles and New York.  In 2023, The Foo Fighters leader recently spent 18 hours smoking and grilling round after round of meat to help the organization hit its goal of serving 3,500 meals in need-based communities in L.A.

“We’ve been trying to figure out ways to keep up with our activations and continue to put out 3,500 meals a month,” Feed the Streets shared on Instagram at the time. “It’s not an easy task, especially when several communities experiencing food insecurity rely on us for a decent meal five times a week. On one of those wet and cold rainy days we received a text from none other than Dave Grohl (code name: Dolce & Gabana) — he said he heard about what we were doing and wanted to help out.”

The organization shared a video of Grohl loading up multiple grills and covering slabs of meat with their special rub for the hours-long cooking process. “He spent 18 hours straight smoking brisket, ribs and pork — with a cooking crew,” Feed the Streets shared. “They stayed up all night and into the sunrise.”
