Brisbane’s Cub Sport have mixed the sweet with the sour today, sharing their gorgeous new single, “Drive”, while pushing back their forthcoming album, Like Nirvana.
Just a matter of weeks ago, Cub Sport revealed that the next few months would be some of their biggest on record. Releasing their latest single “Confessions”, the track served as the first taste of their fourth album, Like Nirvana.
Set for release on May 8th via Cub Sport Records/Believe, the group were set to hit the road just next week for a run of national tour dates. Unfortunately, while these shows have since postponed due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Similarly, Like Nirvana has also been postponed, with the record now being pushed back from its release in early May to a new date of July 24th.
However, to help fans overcome this news, the band have now shared their latest single, “Drive”.

After premiering on BBC Radio 1 this week, “Drive” is a sweeping number that focuses on being able to realise when you’re truly experiencing something special.
“Recognising the magic of life while it’s happening is something really special and that’s what “Drive” is to me; capturing that feeling,” explains frontperson Tim Nelson. “It’s a love song saying ‘You’re a dream and I still can’t believe you give a damn about me’.
There’s a purity to “Drive” that gives me the same warm feeling I get from Cocteau Twins’ “Cherry-Coloured Funk,” Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colours”, and Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You”. It feels like the type of song that soundtracks a particular moment or time in your life.”
While Like Nirvana and the band’s tour have both been pushed back somewhat, Cub Sport have released a limited edition ‘Virtual Meet & Greet‘ pre-order bundles, giving fans the opportunity to connect directly with the group via a private Google Hangout.
Cub Sport are set to release Like Nirvana on July 24th, with pre-orders available now.
