With only a few days to go until the release of their new album, Like Nirvana, Brisbane indie-pop quartet Cub Sport have unveiled the details of an intimate hometown launch party.
Taking place one day after the record’s release, the group will be appearing at Bunyapa Park in Brisbane’s West End to perform a “few stripped back songs” and sign copies of their new record. Beginning at 3pm, the festivities are all-ages, though they’ll be hosting an 18+ DJ set at The End from 5:30pm.
“There’ll be beautiful volunteers handing out masks and hand sanitiser, please distance responsibly and stay home if you have any symptoms,” the group adds. “CAN’T WAIT TO SEE Y’ALL THERE.”
Cub Sport’s Like Nirvana was originally announced back in early March, with a run of tour dates set for early April. Unfortunately, lockdown laws and restrictions on mass gatherings took effect just a few short weeks later, resulting in the cancellation of these shows, and the postponement of the record’s release from May until July.
Now set to arrive on July 24th, the album features an overarching theme of freedom and coincides with frontperson Tim Nelson identifying as ‘free’, positioning themselves outside the gender binary and embracing the use of both neutral pronouns (they/them/their) and male pronouns (he/him/his).
“I am free to follow my heart, free to flow with the energies inside and around me, free to form my own self not built by others,” they explained at the time.
While Like Nirvana is released on July 24th and their album launch taking place in Brisbane on July 25th, fans can also head along to Reddit’s /r/Music subreddit from 9am AEST on July 28th, where the group will be taking part in an AMA (“Ask Me Anything”) session for fans.
