Coldplay have chosen the two West Australian artists who’ll support them at their upcoming Australian shows.
The English rock band recently announced a competition to find the opener for the Australian leg of their ‘Music of the Spheres’ world tour, in association with the Western Australian government.
The lucky joint winners are Adrian Dzvuke and King Ibis, who will respectively open for Coldplay on Saturday, November 18th and Sunday, November 19th at Perth’s Optus Stadium.
The two artists were chosen from hundreds of WA-based entries, and both will each be provided with grant funding through the WA Government’s Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries’ Contemporary Music Fund. This fund supports local musicians to capitalise on opportunities for the contemporary music sector and helps develop local, national, and international audiences for WA bands.
Adrian Dzvuke is a Perth-based artist with a soulful sound that traverses R&B, pop, and Afrobeats. Born in Zimbabwe, Dzvuke moved to Australia at the age of 12 where he began his music career singing and playing drums in church. His debut album, Phone Me When You Lonely, was well-received by critics and fans alike.
Perth-based indie rockers King Ibis have a sun-drenched, stripped-down sound that feels distinctively Western Australian. They’ve released two singles in 2023 so far, “Patience” and “Honeymoon Phase”.
At their Perth shows, Coldplay will also be supported by two of Australia’s most prominent singer-songwriters in Amy Shark and Thelma Plum. The former was Rolling Stone AU/NZ‘s cover star for our March issue, discussing in detail her long journey to the pinnacle of Australian pop.
