As Children Collide get ever-closer to the release of their first new album in nine years, the beloved Australian outfit have today unveiled their latest single, “Trampoline”.
First teasing the track late last month with the announcement of a new tour, the group’s new single serves as their first song released this year, and third taste of their forthcoming album, Time Itself.
Working with Loren Humphrey at Diamond Mine & Stockholm Syndrome in New York City, “Trampoline” is a fuzzy, acid-twinged affair which effortlessly fits within the early ’90s alt-rock scene due to its quiet/loud composition, frontman and guitarist Johnny Mackay describes the tune as “an ode to magnetic, magical and emotionally unavailable unicorns who enter your life and bounce you into space once you form a connection.”
“Sonically, Loren’s production managed to do that thing we love with the song, straddling two eras but still making sense,” he adds. “A lot of this record we were thinking about [Black] Sabbath, The Stooges and Sonic Youth but on ‘Trampoline’ it was late Beatles meeting early Smashing Pumpkins.”
Alongside the single’s release, “Trampoline” also comes paired with a new music video featuring the directorial skills of the acclaimed Cybele Malinowski. Filmed in Bellambi, NSW, the clip manages to capture an undeniable feeling of nostalgia wrapped up within – as per a press release – an “avant-garde technicolour suburban dream”.
While details regarding Children Collide’s new album, Time Itself, are yet to be revealed, the band are set to hit the road later this month for a five-date tour of Victoria. Having performed “Trampoline” at their first show in four years back in 2019, it’s likely that these forthcoming shows will serve as a chance for old and new fans to receive a glimpse of the band’s new album, albeit with a few classics thrown in.
Children Collide’s “Trampoline” is out now, while details regarding new album Time Itself are set to arrive soon.
