As New Zealand artist BENEE looks towards the end of one of her biggest years to date, the young musician now looks set to tick off another imminent milestone, announcing the forthcoming release of her debut album.
Titled Hey u x, the record is set to arrive on Friday, November 13th, with the 13-track “genre-bending” album featuring collaborations from artists as varied as Lily Allen, Grimes, Flo Milli, Gus Dapperton, Mallrat, Kenny Beats, Bakar, and Muroki.
“Soso stoked to announce this album release,” BENEE said of the record. “It’s an eclectic mix of songs I’ve been working on for some time now. Can’t wait to share them.”
Featuring designed by Californian artist Terry Hoff, news of the record comes following the release of a handful of new songs this year, including “Snail”, the Kenny Beats-featuring “Night Garden”, and the stripped down version of her viral hit, “Supalonely”, which appeared on her 2019 Stella & Steve EP.
The latter single managed to help put BENEE’s name on the global map earlier this year thanks to success on TikTok. Months after this viral popularity, BENEE became the first-ever New Zealander to become an Apple Music Up Next artist, joining an esteemed list of musicians that include the likes of Amy Shark and Billie Eilish.
“I’ve watched so many of their past artists docos and it’s crazy that now I’m on the same platform,” BENEE explained at the time.
“It’s also wild that I’ll be the first New Zealand Up Next artist. I feel like there’s so much good music coming out of NZ right now and I’m glad the spotlight is on this part of the world. This support means the world to me and I’m so stoked to be a part of it (:”
BENEE is set to release Hey u x on Friday, November 13th, with pre-order details set to arrive soon.
