ABC’s new program The Sound has proven its worth as a welcome addition to the world of Australian music, announcing a stacked lineup for its upcoming third episode.
Following in the footsteps of previous broadcasts such as The State of Music, the show premiered on July 19th, fittingly appearing in the timeslot once occupied by Countdown back in the day. Hosted by former Recovery host Jane Gazzo, alongside Double J Mornings host Zan Rowe, and a special guest each week, the program features live music and interviews that fans have long cried out for a return of.
Having featured the likes of Nick Cave and DMA’S in its first episode, and showcasing Paul Kelly & Paul Grabowsky, Cub Sport, Julia Stone, and more in episode two, it almost could have felt as though The Sound peaked a little early. However, the unveiling of its lineup for its third episode has proven there’s plenty of fuel left in the tank.
With Gazzo and Rowe being joined by Australian icon, Skyhooks legend, and radio and TV host Red Symons this week, viewers will be treated to sets from the likes of Amy Shark, John Butler, Angie McMahon, Boy & Bear, Gordi, Sheppared, and Dallas Woods, while Birds of Tokyo’s Ian Kenny introduces Scott Darlow.
“I’m excited and proud to play an iconic venue like the Sydney Opera House and bring a special stripped back version of “Everybody Rise” to your lounge room,” Amy Shark says of her upcoming appearance.
“Stoked to be on The Sound,” adds John Butler. “I’m so proud to be a part of this country’s amazing music community and honoured to be invited to play. Our music scene is so special and punches above its weight.”
The Sound is set to broadcast at 5:30pm on Sunday, August 2nd, with an encore performance available on both iview, and the ABC on the following Saturday.
