A Deeper Look at This That Festival’s Best Acts

This That Festival is breaking the live music famine with their Aussie-filled lineup, absolutely killing the scene in the best way possible.

After the famine of live music us Aussies have had to live through these past two years 2022 is set to be the year of festivals. Leading the charge is This That Festival with an absolutely stellar lineup.

The Covid-19 pandemic nearly ended a fair amount of the Australian music scene, with venue doors being shut, and a rejuvenation of the arts seemingly not on the agenda at times. Luckily, though, with vaccination rollouts hitting targets across the country, live music is back and better than ever, with punters keen to infuse themselves with the music and vibes they’ve been missing.

Kicking off 2022, This That Festival will set the stage for what to expect from the live music scene in the post-pandemic world. Rocking a 100% Aussie lineup across two different dates in Queensland and New South Wales, our thirst for live music is certain to be quenched with a handful of artists playing both dates, and a good amount playing separately – meaning you could get in on twice the fun by rocking up to both.

With that being said, it’s time to navigate their superb lineup, and find out which artists have to go on the ‘must see’ list for the 2022 edition of This That Festival.

Hayden James

From the get-go with the This That Festival lineup, Aussie DJ, songwriter, and producer Hayden James stands out as a bucket list artist, that one must see at least once in their lifetime. With a sound that is unbeatable, that ebbs and flows between genres effortlessly, his set is surely something to groove to.

While he’s only got one album to his name – 2019’s Between Us – his discography is chock full of singles that collectively have 100s of 1000s of streams on Spotify.

Wafia

From studying biomedicine at university, and writing songs to simply escape the monotony of it all to becoming one of Vogue‘s LGBTQ+ musicians to listen to, it’s safe to say that Wafia’s music career has exceeded her expectations, and has brought her far from escapism from the mundane.

Breaking through originally with her cover of “Let Me Love You” by American multi-talent Mario, Wafia has since moved on to release four EPs, as well as a slew of singles that radiate electronica and R&B energy.

Client Liaison

The This That Festival experience simply wouldn’t be complete with rocking out to Melbourne’s indie-pop duo Client Liaison and their penchant for not only being a sight to see, but a master of their own craft that is unlike anything else around.

Having been around for well over a decade now, they’ve got two albums to their name, with Divine Intervention only coming to life last month, and their noted success with their discography has turned the pair – comprising Monte Morgan and Harvey Miller – into beloved names within the Aussie music industry.

Jack River

Holly Isabella Rankin, or better known for her stage name Jack River, is a divine singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and even producer from New South Wales who has been pushing the boundaries ever since she stepped on the scene in 2012.

With multiple nominations at the ARIA Music Awards in 2018, and her debut album Sugar Mountain hitting No.11 in 2018, Jack River’s fusion of pop, electronic, and indie rock make her a unique addition to the This That Festival lineup.

The Chats

If there’s anything to be noted about The Chats, it’s that they’re always ready for a ripper of a good time, with plenty of rough and rowdy times included, and guaranteed.

Hailing from Queensland, the trio describe their tunes as “shed rock”, and they live up to it with their pub rock vibes and sound. With their recent win of an AIR Award for their debut album High Risk Behaviour, The Chats have not only cemented themselves in the Aussie music industry, but are on their way to becoming a household name.

San Cisco

Lastly, the This That Festival experience wouldn’t be complete without jamming to the indie rock/psychedelic pop sounds of Western Australia three-piece outfit San Cisco.

Around for over a decade, the band has six ARIA certifications to their name, and it’s no wonder with the sheer amount of brilliant tunes they put forth. With their most recent album Between You and Me charting at No. 3 in Australia, it’s clear that we dig the music that they’re laying down.
