‘In My Room’ With The Cat Empire

The beloved Melbourne band performed two new singles and an old favourite

They’ve got a new album and national tour on the way, so asking The Cat Empire to perform an ‘In My Room’ session for Rolling Stone AU/NZ felt only right.

The band officially entered their new era with the announcement of Where the Angels Fall back in May, with the album set for release in August.

The new Cat Empire lineup finds original members Felix Riebl and Ollie McGill in a new ensemble alongside some expert musicians including Seychelles singer Grace Barbe, Cuban-born trumpeter Lazaro Numa, and the band’s close friend Neda Rahmani.

For their ‘In My Room’, The Cat Empire performed two new singles, “Thunder Rumbles” and “Rock N’ Roll”, and threw in a rendition of an old favourite, “Still Young”, for good measure.

The latter featured on the band’s sixth studio album, Steal the Light, which peaked at number three on the ARIA Albums Chart 10 years ago. “It’s a festival banger,” Riebl says before the band plays the track. “We are on the road a lot and this one’s going to bring us home.”

You can watch The Cat Empire’s full ‘In My Room’ session above.

After the release of Where the Angels Fall next month, The Cat Empire will hit the road to celebrate their new album. They’ll perform along the East Coast in September and October, stopping in Sydney, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Adelaide, and Melbourne (see full dates below).

It’s been a busy year of touring for the band so far this year. They recently embarked on a sold-put 23-date run across the UK and Europe, and they’ll head to North America for a massive 28-date tour following the conclusion of their Australian album tour.

The Cat Empire’s Where the Angels Fall is out August 25th via Ditto (pre-save/pre-order here).
