Acclaimed electronic duo Snakehips are highly selective when it comes to their collaborators, and there was no chance that working with Tkay Maidza wouldn’t pay off.

Having previously worked with stellar artists such as Anderson .Paak, Tinashe, and Armand van Helden, the British pair recruited the Zimbabwean-born Australian star for new single “Show Me the Money”, released earlier today.

The track sounds like the work of seasoned collaborators, with an impressive naturalness audible in their link-up. Over Snakehips’ pounding and propelling production, Maidza unleashes delicately smooth vocals. “Just show me the money,” she confidently asserts; “You’re the one I need,” a voice continually begs back, with Snakehips more than happy to acquiesce to Maidza’s intoxicating talent.

“Show Me the Money” got the seal of approval from DJ Clara Amfo on BBC Radio 1 last night, while Maidza was very attracted to working on the track due to its subject matter.

“Recently I’ve been into manifesting and self-growth and I felt like it would be cool to make a song that is very pro ‘getting your bag.'” she says. “I wanted it to be from a more positive outlook; it’s fine if you want to achieve your goals and you don’t have time for other people to waste.”

She was also excited to get to team up with the duo: “I’ve been a huge fan of Snakehips for a long time now so I’m really glad we got to finally work on this together,” she adds.

“Show Me the Money” is the latest single from Snakehips’ upcoming and eagerly-anticipated debut album. The record will also contain previous singles including “Who’s Gonna Love You Tonight”, another collaboration with the aforementioned Tinashe, and “WATER.”, which featured a guest spot from US rapper and singer Bryce Vine.

Maidza, meanwhile, has been receiving global acclaim for a while now, despite releasing her one and only full-length studio album in 2016 (Tkay). She’s toured with superstars like Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa; she’s appeared on billboards in Times Square; she’s even been asked to appear on a song for League of Legends. Expect to hear lots more from her in 2023 and beyond.
