Song You Need to Know: ISHAN, ‘Make Up Moves’

“‘Make Up Moves’ is a song about two people in a relatively new relationship,” the busking singer-songwriter shares

ISHAN

ISHAN is back with another catchy single, proving why he’s one to watch in the Australian indie-pop scene right now.

Titled “Make Up Moves”, the song is about the excitement of a new relationship – like that rush of dopamine you just can’t shake.

The 21-year-old singer-songwriter, who got his start busking in Melbourne’s CBD, wrote the song about a young couple whose rainy day plans get cancelled, so they stay in and dance to their favourite tunes instead. It’s classic young love stuff, but with ISHAN’s strong vocals and polished production, it’s hard to resist.

“‘Make Up Moves’ is a song about two people in a relatively new relationship. It focuses on a day when they decide to stay in and dance to all of their favourite tracks,” explains ISHAN.

“The song paints a picture of new and exciting love in a way that is carefree and celebrates the joy of simply moving together.”

The music video, directed by Richard Clifford, is suitably warm and cosy, showing a couple dancing inside while ISHAN strums his guitar. You can watch it below.

“Make Up Moves” follows earlier singles like “Supernova”, “My Mouth (la la la)”, and “Her Boyfriend’s House”, all set to feature on ISHAN’s debut album that’s in the works.

If you want to catch him live, ISHAN is set to showcase at BIGSOUND in Brisbane this September and perform at The Sunshine Coast’s Big Pineapple Festival in October.

In other ISHAN news, US hitmaker Mark Ambor recently joined ISHAN’s busking set for an impromptu performance of Ambor’s hit song “Belong Together”, proving ISHAN’s mark on the overseas scene.

He also made an appearance in Rolling Stone AU/NZ’s ‘In My Room’ series – watch it here.

The rising indie-pop singer-songwriter has become a notable fixture of the city’s CBD streets on weekends, particularly on the bustling Bourke Street Mall, passionately performing his own songs as a one-man band, fuelled by his desire for success in the music industry,” we wrote at the time.

In 2022, Tone Deaf  hailed him as “one to watch on the Australian pop circuit.”

ISHAN’s “Make Up Moves” is out now.
