Death By Denim performed three tracks from their new EP, My House Is A Club, for the latest instalment of Rolling Stone AU/NZ‘s ‘In My Room’.
Sounding like Alex Turner if he fronted Hot Chip, Death By Denim’s new EP is filled with sparkling indie-pop gems. The record is big and bold, bright and bouncing, the energy unrelenting over five tracks.
“It’s an EP largely about being in limbo, whether its with your personal relationships or life pursuits, and choosing to ignore it with a constant intake of meaningless celebration and socialisation, masking the fact you are afraid to move forward and forever feeding this inaction,” the band says about My House Is A Club.
“We wanted the breadth of the EP to sound “FUN” even though the lyrics are awfully somber and shaky at times. It was after all recorded at a very promising time – the band had their dreams come true with a LAV performance and national touring was firmly back on the agenda. It felt like we could breathe easy again and we wanted the music to reflect the fact we were pretty much dancing on our feet through most of the recording process.”
“This is where the magic happens,” the band’s lead singer Nikolas Iliadis says at the beginning of their ‘In My Room’ performance following some swirling visuals.

Following the EP’s release, Death By Denim will be hitting the road for a national tour in May, taking in stops in Melbourne, Sydney, Wollongong, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, and Perth (see full details below). The band will be supported by psych-rock outfit Majak Door at the East Coast shows.
