Your Local August Gig Guide Presented by Headline Acts

Powered by Muso, music-infused wine brand Headline Acts are putting on a bunch of awesome local gigs around Australia.

Mantas Hesthaven

If you’re the sort of person who’s always on the lookout for a solid night out spent drinking in all the spoils the world of live music has to offer, then Headline Acts have got just what you’re looking for.

If that name sounds familiar to you, it might be because we’ve spent a little bit of time looking at them in the past. Having previously served as the official wine sponsor of both Bluesfest and Splendour In The Grass, music-infused wine brand Headline Acts plans to replace the same tired beer and seltzers as the drink of choice at Australia’s biggest music festivals.

But their dedication to the craft doesn’t stop at the top of the live music spectrum, with Headline Acts also ensuring that the local scene is well-catered to, committing $150k to help put on a run of shows across the country featuring artists discovered via Muso.

A gig-booking platform that seeks to create satisfying revenue opportunities for talent, Muso launched in 2018 with the basic principle of making live music more accessible to more people, and they pull it off by putting independent musicians in direct contact with venues and promoters.

With Headline Acts and Muso crossing paths to deliver nothing but good beverages and good times, we’ve taken a closer look at all the events they’ve got coming up over the next few weeks.

3WAY

Kicking things off this week is none other than 3WAY, the Perth trio that combine electric and acoustic sounds to deliver sets full of covers of some of the finest classic rock songs imaginable. Despite their name, 3WAY also boast the ability to expand into a quintet (no word as to whether they adopt the name 5WAY in that case), but it’s the tried-and-true trio mode in which they shine the best.

Dedicated to delivering covers of the classic female and male artists from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s that played real rock ‘n’ roll, 3WAY will be kicking off this upcoming series of shows with an appearance at The Cornerstone Ale House at Butler in WA this Friday, August 19th.

Pooks

Or, if you’re feeling like a bit of uptempo music might be more suited to your style, then you might want to find yourself at the Carlton Hotel in Melbourne on Saturday, August 20th to catch Pooks.

An emerging name in the Melbourne house scene, Pooks has been playing plenty of shows around the place, with his profile rising to the point where he recently featured alongside Hayley Trinca on Odd Mob’s ‘Disappear’.

Organ Grinders

Of course, there’s still something to be said about the classic acoustic chill-out set, where the vibes are fine-tuned and the atmosphere is as immersive as the music itself. That’s where the Organ Grinders come into play, with a 3pm acoustic set slated for Friday, August 26th at Joondalup’s Sovereign Arms.

Boasting an acoustic pop/rock sound, the Organ Grinders boast many years of experience, with the majority of their sets these days seeming them in either duo or trio mode, unleashing a mesmerising sound whenever they hit the stage, and picking from a wide repertoire of inimitable tracks.

Alex Hurt

Originally hailing from the valleys of South Wales but these days based in Sydney, Alex Hurt is the sort of musician you want to see on the bill of any venue. Self-taught, and boasting a stacked list of tracks to his name, Hurt has spent a number of years proving himself as one of Sydney’s must-see performers.

Whether it’s sharing his unique take on old classics, or reinventing nascent anthems, Hurt has cemented his status as one to watch on the local music scene, and you’ll be able to catch him live at The St Ives Club in Sydney on September 2nd.

MAD Duo

However, if you can’t find your way to Sydney on September 9th, Melbourne is bringing out the goods in equal measure, with MAD Duo hitting up the Nicholson Hotel for a stellar set of covers and originals throughout their set.

Comprising the titular Mark And Darren (MAD), the pair combine over 30 years of experience to pick from their repertoire of over 300 songs. The result is an evening you certainly won’t forget, with the pair ensuring that every audience member leaves as a firm fan.
