Georgia Lines is headling at Auckland’s Powerstation this Friday night (September 20th).

After a standout few years operating as an independent artist herself, she’s chosen her support acts for this show in the same spirit she shows emerging talent on her INTRO series. Over 100 entries were submitted via social media, and Tāmaki Makaurau’s Emily Bateman was one of just three artists selected for the show.

Bateman, who released her 5-track EP Like I Always Do in May, is already gearing up for new music. Co-produced with Tom Broome, the EP explores themes of adolescence, love, and nostalgia. Having participated in BIG FAN’s songwriting week, Bateman is now working on material that blends dream pop with a more direct pop sound.

Lines also picked up-and-coming country-pop artist Rosie Teese, who’s released impressive singles “Two Sided Hearts” and “Overboard.”

The latter song, an uplifting anthem about exploring newfound love, opened a new chapter for Teese, who’s aiming to follow in the footsteps of Kiwi country stars like Kaylee Bell.

Rotorua singer-songwriter Alayna Powley, aka Alayna, will also join the stage as the most established of the trio of support acts.

Alayna released her debut album Self Portrait of a Woman Unravelling in July 2023 and was a top 20 finalist in the APRA Silver Scrolls 2024 for “A World Without You.” She also opened for Stephen Sanchez at Powerstation earlier this year. You can read her profile in Rolling Stone AU/NZ’s ‘Up-And-Coming Aotearoa Artists’ series here.

“It was such a treat to discover so many new artists & watch some very incredible performances,” Lines shared on social media.

Lines recently played her first Australian shows in Sydney and Melbourne and also showcased her music at BIGSOUND 2024.

Lines is touring in support of her new album The Rose of Jericho, which dropped one week after she was named Best Pop Artist at the 2024 Aotearoa Music Awards.

“I’ve poured a lot of myself into the songwriting of this album,” Lines said about The Rose of Jericho. “It is honest and vulnerable, and dives into places in my own journey which I have written much of the album around.”

Rolling Stone AU/NZ gave The Rose of Jericho a glowing four-star review.

“Georgia Lines’ debut record sounds so raw and delicate that you immediately feel the heartache which had to be overcome to make it,” our review read.

“With songs about the dichotomy of a life well lived (“Grand Illusion”), mourning what could have been (“Not by Your Side” ft. Teeks), and all the wished-for-words left unsaid (“The Letter”), it’s any wonder she is one of the most exciting songwriters to come out of Aotearoa in recent memory.

Make no mistake, the record leans into piano-driven R&B and indie-pop, but with so much imagery and truth in each song, it sits in a room of its own. The Rose of Jericho captures the internal struggle we all feel at some point — that’s the magic of Georgia Lines.”
