Fletcher Kent only has two official singles to his name, but the rising star has already drawn comparisons to indie-folk luminaries like Matt Corby and Noah Kahan.
Kent released his debut single, “I’ll Be”, last year, and he was soon receiving plaudits through text messages from Cody Simpson, Dean Lewis, and Lewis Capaldi. Not bad for a musician who was more used to busking in small country towns around Australia.
In his nascent career, Kent’s keen singer-songwriting talent has earned him supporting slots for The Dreggs, Vera Blue, Kim Churchill, Noah Dillon, and more notable names.
Away from his promising solo career, Kent has been working with MMAD (Musicians Making a Difference), a charity that transforms young lives through music, for several years now.
Produced and mixed by the Grammy and ARIA Award-winning Eric J (Angus & Julia Stone, The Testy Brothers, Chet Faker), “I’ll Be” is an eyes-tightly-closed emotional anthem, which Kent says was “more of a poem, a personal manifesto” before it was fashioned into a song.
“I feel there’s more of me in this song than maybe anything I’ve ever written. It’s about my life – all of it. Passion, purpose, family, love, grief, connection. It’s a look towards the future, a pledge to become the person I want to be, my intentions on how I want to live this life and exist in the world,” he explains.
After released just his second single, “Are You Ready”, at the start of the year, Kent is now turning his attention towards a full EP, which is slated for released later in 2025.
But first, the Central Coast artist performed a stunning ‘In My Room’ session for Rolling Stone AU/NZ, which you can watch above.
This week will also see Kent feature in Live Nation Australia’s Ones to Watch series. The first 2025 edition of the series will be held at Melbourne’s beloved Gasometer Hotel on Thursday, February 13th, where Kent will get to showcase his music alongside local alt-rock artist Lotte Gallagher and Sydney’s up-and-coming pop star Salty.
