ENOLA, the post-punk project led by the electric Naarm/Melbourne singer-songwriter Ruby Marshall, certainly packs a powerful punch with their latest single, “Waves”.

The fierce track taps into the simmering frustrations of our time: propelled by roaring guitars and thunderous drums, ENOLA skilfully addresses thorny issues such as climate crises, political unrest, and mental health in their thoughtful lyrics. “There’s no love in the city / There’s no love in you for me,” Marshall spits out, their vocals heavy with emotion.

“’Waves’ is really centered on the frustration of it all, feeling like you’re in a boiling pot with everything, from the political climate to the climate crisis, mental health issues, just everywhere I look there’s that feeling of tension rising. When what we need is compassion, what we need is softness,” the musician explains.

“Waves” storms into our ears as the concluding track on ENOLA’s  excellent debut EP, All Is Forgiven, which features previously released tracks like “Looking Back”, “Metal Body”, and “Strange Comfort” alongside new offerings such as “Hurt” and “Miss You”, revealing a softer side to this burgeoning talent.

ENOLA is celebrating their EP’s release with headline tour dates in January and February, and they’ll also be performing at the global new music festival, The Great Escape, in England next May (see full dates below).

Marshall was also one of the most memorable performers at The Courtyard Presented by Rolling Stone at SXSW Sydney recently, while they also supported genre-hopping star EKKSTACY in Melbourne, emphasising their growing impact.

ENOLA’s All Is Forgiven EP is out now via Hell Beach Records.
