Bumpy performed a stunning In My Room session for our Future of Music series.
We chose the Melbourne soul artist and producer Noongar woman as one of 25 local acts we’re most excited about right now.
Bumpy’s music feels rooted in something much deeper than genre,” we praised. “[…] her debut album marked a significant arrival: soulful, grounded, and generous in spirit, with Bumpy using music as nourishment, memory, and community work.”
That debut album, Kanana, was one of the best releases in Australian music last year, a record that felt like the fullest expression of Bumpy’s incredible career journey so far.
Translating from Noongar as “Land Where the Sunsets”, the album is built around connection: to family, to Country, to language, to community, and to the small shared moments that hold people together.

In exciting news for Bumpy, Kanana was recently revealed as the first album nominated for the prestigious 22nd Australian Music Prize. It means she’s now in the running to make the final shortlist and win the $50K cash prize.
In an exclusive interview for our Future of Music series, Bumpy reflected on some career highlights.
“Sharing stages in the same year with icons like Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller, Meshell Ndegeocello, Cymande, Hiatus Kaiyote, and Yazmin Lacey was not on my bingo card!” she told us.
Bumpy also looked ahead to the rest of 2026 and beyond.
“I’ve been writing a lot and I’m excited to share more soon. And a heap of shows across Australia and a few international spots too… I probably can’t say where just yet…” she teased.
