Every week, Rolling Stone AU/NZ dives into our favourite Australian music released over the past seven days. Explore fresh tracks from Forest Claudette, Way Dynamic, Emma Russack, ISHAN, Kosmetika, Vallis Alps, MEGHNA, Emma Volard, and BARKAA below.

Forest Claudette – “Moonlight”

Forest Claudette has dropped their seriously smooth new single “Moonlight” accompanied by stunning visuals. It’s the perfect fit to open for Omar Apollo during his Australian shows next month.

Way Dynamic – Duck

Way Dynamic, aka Melbourne engineer and producer Dylan Young (Snowy Band), has released his second album and it’s a beautiful listen. Co-produced by Stefan Blair from Good Morning, the album weaves together lush melodies and textured sounds, with delightfully off-kilter and restrained arrangements.

Emma Russack – “About the Girl”

The title track of her upcoming album, this hypnotic release from the folk-pop artist combines pleasingly quirky synth-pop with lyrics about hindsight and intricate relationships. Originally intended for strings, Russack opted to sing those parts herself, using her voice to emulate orchestral sounds.

ISHAN – “Supernova”

ISHAN bares it all in “Supernova”, a track delving into the complexities of a deep friendship disrupted by romantic feelings. “Reacting to an unexpected kiss and trying to figure out if your love for that person extends beyond the platonic is really difficult in a split second,” explains ISHAN.

Kosmetika – “Reward Risk”

The Melbourne band’s new track “Reward Risk” is a total win – a ripping second preview featuring playful call-and-responses from their upcoming album, set to drop next month.

Vallis Alps – “You’re On My Mind”

The electronic duo’s latest track is all about the feeling of missing—a sentiment that struck them deeply while on their North American tour last year.  “We both experienced that feeling a lot with touring the world and feeling homesick and far from the people we love,” shares Parissa Tosif.

MEGHNA – “I See Red”

Melbourne-based artist and songwriter MEGHNA launches into 2024 with her latest single “I See Red”, featuring Adyn Young. The track delivers a punchy expression of rage aimed at those who feel entitled to women’s bodies.

 Emma Volard – ALIBI

Emma Volard’s second album dives deeper into introspective lyrics and pushes the boundaries of experimental future soul, firmly establishing her in Melbourne’s experimental music scene and beyond. With fans like Gilles Peterson and Thundercat, her innovative sound is turning heads.

BARKAA – “Preach”

BARKAA speaks truth to power on her latest song, reminding listeners that their voices can be vessels for change. And the rapper and artist is typically self-confident, declaring, “I ain’t going nowhere sis.”
