Almost six months on from the release of his last single, Casey Barnes has continued his status as one of Australia’s most memorable country exports, sharing the latest taste of his forthcoming record by way of an exclusive first listen of “God Took His Time On You” today.
Equal parts powerful and heartfelt, “God Took His Time On You” has all the hallmarks of a classic country ballad, complete with masterful production, introspective lyrics, and the sort of chorus that feels destined to wash over live crowds before too long.
Having released “Come Turn Me On” back in March, that single gave fans a taste of Barnes’ work with Nashville-based songwriting duo Brown & Gray, who he once again collaborated with for not only his latest track, but his upcoming record, too.
“I’ve absolutely loved teaming up with my US buddies in Brown & Gray co-writing tracks for this next album and when we worked on this single we knew straight away it was something really special,” Barnes explains.
“Every lyric in this song is a dedication to the one you love. Using the metaphor in the line ‘when heaven dreamt you up, God took his time on you’ I think is the ultimate tribute of how perfect you feel your partner is.”
The arrival of “God Took His Time On You” is fitting, too, considering that it arrives just weeks before the 2021 edition of the Gold Coast Music Awards in early September. Having taken out Artist of The Year at the 2020 awards, Barnes again finds himself nominated this year, in the running for Song of The Year for “Come Turn Me On”, Release of The Year for Town of a Million Dreams, Live Act of The Year, and Artist of The Year.
While it remains to be seen whether Barnes may sweep the pool at the awards next month, news regarding his forthcoming album looks set to arrive in coming months, along with an announcement for an extensive national tour early next year.
Casey Barnes’ “God Took His Time On You” is officially released on August 13th via Chugg Music.
