REDD. is entering a new era with the release of their latest single “life”, a shape-shifting song that finds the rising Melbourne artist exploring identity, gender dysphoria, and self-discovery.
Written during sessions in London and co-written and produced by acclaimed producer Dan Carey, whose credits include Wet Leg, Fontaines D.C. and Kylie Minogue, the song shifts between wiry new wave-inspired verses and a slower, expansive chorus before culminating in an off-kilter synth solo, reflecting its themes of piecing together one’s identity.
“When I first wrote the song I had a completely different verse one and two. The only thing that stuck was the chorus. It’s very fitting how Frankenstein-ed this whole song was, seeing as that was the main message in the chorus ‘stitching all the pieces that make me’,” REDD. said. “I believe that’s what a huge part of life is. Learning, experiencing and discovering new things about who you are, to create and form your sense of self.”
The recording process itself was similarly unconventional. “life” began as an improvised jam between Carey on guitar, REDD. on bass, and drummer Eric Zulic before Carey dissected the session recordings, chopping and resampling them to create the fractured rhythm that underpins the verses.
Released alongside the single is an accompanying music video directed by Cole Surrey, who previously collaborated with REDD. on visuals for their debut mixtape RAUNCH.. The clip follows the artist as they search for a version of themself that feels authentic, expanding on the themes explored in the song.
To celebrate the song’s release, REDD. will be playing two free launch parties – Melbourne’s Lulie Tavern on July 17th and Sydney’s Dead Set on July 18th – before heading to Europe for some headline shows and festival appearances.
The release continues the momentum REDD. has built since emerging last year. The artist has accumulated more than 3.3 million global streams, was named on our Future of Music 2026 list, and has seen their music land in film, television and gaming. Their single “MESSY.” recently featured in the hit Prime Video series Off Campus and box office hit Scary Movie 6.
