Reb Fountain has announced her new album, Water for Gasoline.
Set for release on Friday, August 14th via Fountain Records, Water for Gasoline marks a major new creative chapter for the Aotearoa-based singer-songwriter.
Fountain wrote and recorded her new album in her own garage studio this year. Most tracks were recorded live in a single take, written and reshaped during recording and evolving naturally in the room. Alongside longtime collaborators Dave Khan, Simon Gooding, and Earl Robertson, Fountain embraced instinct and spontaneity more than ever on this record.
Leading the album is new single “Good People”, out today, which is the only track Fountain will share prior to the full album release.
“I wanted to share ‘Good People’ then release the album as a whole,” she explains. “Those live recordings — full of our conviction to listen to and record songs together, in one take — the sooner we share them the sooner folks can ‘be’ with us in the room. We’re in this together and we want to bring our fans, old and new along for the ride.”
“Good People”, which was influenced by iconic artists like Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Marvin Gaye, and Patti Smith, features the unmistakable voices of Tami Neilson and Dianne Swan. It’s described as “equal parts protest anthem and heartfelt prayer to unit folks behind a common cause.”
