First a fundraiser, now a compilation: Aotearoa’s music community is really rallying behind the under-threat Neck of the Woods.
NYMPHO, the Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland-based group behind the queer club night of the same name, today announced Save Neck of the Woods, a special compilation featuring Ninajirachi, Caru, Lady Shaka, and many more.
News broke last week that Neck of the Woods, which has been a haven for live music on Auckland’s Karangahape Road for 11 years, would be closing down following a few final events over the weekend.
The team behind NYMPHO first started a fundraiser for the beloved venue which, at the time of writing, has raised $121,012 of its $150,000 target.
All proceeds from the new Save Neck of the Woods compilation will go directly towards the wider fundraising effort to save the venue.

“For the past eleven years, Neck of the Woods has stood at the centre of Tāmaki Makaurau’s creative scene, providing a home for the city’s thriving underground music scene to grow and flourish,” NYMPHO writes on the Bandcamp page.
“Positioned within the heart of Karangahape Road, it’s impact and influence extends far past its ever-reverberating walls; Neck of the Woods has fostered and nurtured some of Aotearoa’s finest exports, all the while cementing itself as a cornerstone of the country’s flourishing independent music ecosystem.”
Over on the Give a Little fundraiser page, NYMPHO notes that Neck of the Woods’ “space and sound system are unmatched, but more than anything it is the people who work there.”
“The team at Neck of the Woods are some of the most kind, hard-working, funny, loving, nurturing people we have ever had the pleasure of working with. They have cultivated a space that bridges communities in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa and to the world,” they add.
NYMPHO’s Save Neck of the Woods compilation is out now.
