It’s a good day to be a Miss Kaninna fan.
One of the brightest talents in the current generation of rap has announced her highly anticipated debut mixtape, BLACKPRINT, out on Friday, August 21st.
“We know we’re the key to start of civilisation, we’re literally the blueprint and we don’t care if white people agree or not, we aren’t gonna wait for you,” Kaninna says of the mixtape and its title.
Arriving alongside today’s mixtape announcement is new single “HANDOUT”, a powerhouse collaboration with Jamahl Yami (listen below).
The song centres “black power and rage, especially with the double standards of crime and prosecution in so-called ‘Australia’.”
That’s not all: Kaninna has also announced a 7-date headline tour of the country, co-presented by triple j, I OH YOU & MG Live.

The run of shows will hit Perth, Darwin, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Castlemaine this August and September (see full dates below). Tickets go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, June 23rd, with the MG Live pre-sale beginning on Monday, June 22nd.
“HANDOUT” follows previous 2026 single “MOB TIES”, a typically unrelenting song which Kaninna described as a “homage to hip-hop and my people in the struggle.”
“I wanted to show the strength of mob and solidarity between all Black people. I want Blackfullas and immigrants to feel the sense of belonging they deserve and to give a very clear message to racist white supremacist groups, you and your rhetoric are not welcome here,” she said of “MOB TIES”.
Kaninna’s breakout hit “Blak Britney” made it into our Best Australian & New Zealand Songs of the 21st Century So Far list last year.
“Blak Britney” helped Kaninna earn three ARIA Award nominations, and she made history as the first Independent Aboriginal woman to be nominated for a debut single.
Kaninna was also chosen as one of 25 Australian and Aotearoa acts for our Future of Music series last year. In an attached interview for the series, she reflected on the “crazy year” that was 2024 for the rising star.
“I had a lot of ups and downs last year but am grateful for the journey. One of my highlights of 2024 was going on my own headline tour of so-called ‘Australia’ and I got to bring my family along with me and have them be a part of the show which was really special,” she told us.
Miss Kaninna’s “HANDOUT” (ft. Jamahl Yami) is out now. BLACKPRINT is out Friday, August 21st via Soul Has No Tempo / AWAL Recordings (pre-save/pre-order here).
