Auckland indie rock band PARK RD are back with their second single of the year.

“The Way I Feel” is their first release after spending the winter recording a new album, at the same time as hosting a month-long live residency in their hometown.

Buoyed by a singalong chorus, “The Way I Feel” finds lead singer Tom Chamberlain trying to embrace his inner ‘bad boy’, longing for an unrequited love. Listen below.

PARK RD’s new album will follow their acclaimed 2024 debut, The Novel, which featured festival-ready anthems like “Call Me Up”, “Every Night”, and “Secrets”.

Rolling Stone AU/NZ gave the album three stars, calling it a “debut album packed with singalong choruses and headily youthful songwriting.”

“The songs on The Novel are, almost to a fault at some junctures, pristinely polished for commercial viability, but increased experimentation and narrative risks can, for the PARK RD boys, wait until a second album. For now, The Novel achieves what any debut collection should: it gathers their most memorable singles together, while also providing just enough moments of sonic intrigue between those standout moments,” our review read.

PARK RD featured in our Future of Music series this year, chosen as one of the local acts we’re tipping for the very top.

“Auckland’s PARK RD are carving their own path in pop-rock with festival-ready anthems and raw, heartfelt songwriting,” we praised. “Straddling the gap between Spacey Jane’s sunlit indie and The 1975’s polished melodrama, their sound has already turned heads – Spacey Jane even tapped them to open for them in Aotearoa.”

In an accompanying interview, the band discussed their “crazy” 2024.

“We toured NZ a bunch of times, and played some sick shows in Australia with The Rions and Blusher and some of our own shows too which were epic in their own ways. We had a few fans who flew across the country to every show, which was incredible to feel that sort of love,” they told us.
